Amid the rising heat and humid weather conditions in Kerala, the State seems to have reason to cheer in the coming days with the latest weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread summer rain across the State. The summer rain will gain traction in the State from April 27. The meteorological agency has issued a yellow alert warning of rain (between 64.4 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours) in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on April 29.
The seasonal summer shower has been deficient so far this season. However, enhanced moisture incursion into the land is likely after April 27 with the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO), a moving band of rain clouds that travels around the globe, spanning 12,000–20,000 km across tropical oceans, entering a favourable phase over the Indian Ocean. This is expected to increase moisture transport towards the land, enhancing summer rainfall activity, according to IMD officials.
