Ahmedabad: Suzlon Group said that its renewable energy company in India has won a 248.85 MW wind energy order from the ArcelorMittal Group. Suzlon has been given the wind part of a 550 MW hybrid project in Gujarat. The wind part will be used at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s facilities in India.

Under the terms of the contract, Suzlon will send 79 S144 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 3.15 MW, to Bachau in the Kutch district for installation. According to the company, this is Suzlon’s fourth big wind order to help make steel production less carbon-intensive. It will add about 1,156 MW of green steel capacity in India. Suzlon has worked with top steelmakers over the past year to speed up the switch to making steel with less carbon.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of the Suzlon Group, said, “We are proud to work with ArcelorMittal, one of the most respected steelmakers in the world.” Steel is the most important part of India’s infrastructure, but it is also one of the most energy-intensive industries. As the sector moves faster toward decarbonization, renewable energy has become a competitive and useful source of energy. We at Suzlon are dedicated to making this change happen through strong partnerships and industry groups like the Indian Steel Green Council.

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, said, “We are happy to have ArcelorMittal as a partner in India’s move toward a low-carbon future.” This project shows that Suzlon is focusing on the EPC segment, where we want to slowly grow its share to 50% of all our orders. We think that EPC will help us win more orders in the future.

“We are committed to supporting the energy transition and making sure that we have enough clean energy for our operations,” said Amit Harlalka, Director of ArcelorMittal Sustainable Solutions India. “This goal requires trusted partners.” Suzlon is our top choice for a partner because they have been in the wind energy business for 30 years and have a proven track record of dependability. This partnership shows that we both want to speed up the production of green steel and make India’s future more sustainable.
