The Afghan Taliban on Tuesday claimed to have recaptured multiple check-posts along the contentious Durand Line following intense clashes with Pakistani forces in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

According to Taliban sources, fighters launched coordinated infantry and artillery attacks on Pakistani militia positions in Kandahar province, particularly in the Shorabak area, regaining control of several posts that had fallen to Pakistani troops over the weekend.

The group said it has re-established control over check-posts in Zabul, Khost and Kandahar provinces. Taliban officials further claimed that at least five additional checkpoints, which they alleged were seized by Pakistan’s military on Saturday, have now been retaken.

Local sources cited by security officials claimed at least 13 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 23 injured in the fighting. Some reports also suggested that several Pakistani troops are missing following the clashes. These figures, however, could not be independently verified.

Security sources indicated that Pakistani troops retreated from some of their forward positions after the Taliban’s offensive. Retaliatory actions were reportedly ongoing in parts of Khost, Zabul and Kandahar provinces at the time of reporting.

There was no immediate official statement from Pakistan’s military regarding the reported casualties or the alleged withdrawal.

The Durand Line—the disputed border separating Afghanistan and Pakistan—has long been a flashpoint for tensions between the two sides, with periodic cross-border exchanges and accusations of territorial violations.

The latest escalation marks one of the most significant flare-ups in recent months and raises concerns about further instability along the volatile frontier.
