Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, who is on his first official visit to New Delhi since assuming office, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. He held a 25-minute meeting with the Prime Minister. The visit focusses on the centre-state coordination and key federal issues, notably the proposed Mekedatu Dam project in Karnataka. Prior to the meeting, Vijay wrote a letter to the Prime Minister urging the centre to reject Karnataka's proposal, stating it violates Supreme Court directions on Cauvery water sharing and threatens the livelihood of delta farmers. Following his meeting with the Prime Minister, Vijay is scheduled to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss state funds and law and order. On the second day of his visit, the Chief Minister will hold meetings with opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi. The visit is being closely watched as Vijay navigates relations with the central government while addressing state issues involving the Congress-ruled Karnataka government.
