Tamil Nadu Election 2026: Based on the election affidavits filed for the Tamil Nadu Polls, actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay has emerged as the richest candidate.

As Tamil Nadu heads for assembly elections, the stage is set for a high-stakes battle between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Polling in the southern state will be held on April 23, with the counting of votes set for May 4.

The current political landscape features the ruling DMK, which is eyeing a consecutive term; the AIADMK-led NDA, which is exploring grounds to make a comeback; and the TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, which is set to make its poll debut.

Richest Candidates In Tamil Nadu

Based on the election affidavits filed for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, actor-turned-politician and TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) chief Vijay has emerged as the richest candidate among those who have filed nominations, declaring assets worth over Rs 600 crores.

Vijay, who is in the fray from the Perambur and Trichy East constituencies, has declared assets worth approximately Rs 603.20 crores, including bank deposits exceeding Rs 213 crore across various accounts.

According to the affidavit, his assets include high-end cars such as a BMW 530, a Toyota Lexus, a Toyota Vellfire, and a BMW i7, news agency PTI reported.

Aadhav Arjuna, a TVK leader contesting from Villivakkam, he declared assets worth Rs 197.52 crore, the affidavit filed by him with his nomination papers for the April 23 Assembly polls revealed.

Arjuna has declared moveable assets valued at Rs 180.03 crore in his name, and assets worth Rs 162.14 crore in his wife Daisy Arjuna’s name, as per the affidavit.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the DMK leader and Deputy Chief Minister has declared assets over Rs 20.64 crore, roughly three times higher than his father and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Poorest Candidates In Tamil Nadu

According to Election Commission of India (ECI) data from the initial phase, a significant number of the “poorest" candidates are independent contenders from Tamil Nadu, with several declaring assets of Rs 1,000 or less.

Mohamed Mubarak, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), candidate contesting from the Ambur constituency, has been identified as one of the poorest candidates with declared assets of Rs 6 lakh.
