Tamil Nadu Government Formation Live Updates: The long-simmering split within the AIADMK, which had persisted since the death of J Jayalalithaa, appears to have reached a decisive turning point on Tuesday morning. A faction led by senior leaders S P Velumani and C Ve Shanmugham is moving to extend support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government headed by Vijay and is likely to join the Cabinet, effectively reducing AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) to a shrinking minority within the party he has sought to consolidate for nearly a decade.

AIADMK MLA Shanmugam has said a group of party legislators will meet Chief Minister Vijay to formally extend support to the government, while also alleging that Palaniswami had earlier considered an alliance with the DMK to form a government. Separately, senior leader Velumani has demanded the immediate convening of the party’s general council meeting, underlining deepening internal divisions over the party’s political direction.

By Tuesday morning, rebel leaders had largely finalised their move, with sources indicating that the breakaway faction was expected to meet TVK leaders by evening. Chief Minister Vijay is also likely to formally accept AIADMK support in the interest of “government stability”, as the party, which won 47 seats in the recent elections, faces an unprecedented realignment in Tamil Nadu politics.
