In Tirunelveli, a traffic SSI, Gandhirajan, faced suspension after a video surfaced showing him dragging a two-wheeler rider on his car's bonnet
TIRUNELVELI: A Special Sub-Inspector of Police (SSI) of the traffic wing of Tirunelveli city police was suspended on Thursday after a video of him dragging a two-wheeler rider clinging to his car bonnett following an argument went viral on social media platforms.According to police sources, the traffic SSI, Gandhirajan, was driving his car on Wednesday night near Kallanai Street in Tirunelveli Town West area. At that time, Gandhirajan allegedly hit the back of a two-wheeler, making the rider lose control. The two-wheeler rider who fell down confronted SSI Gandhirajan and questioned him over his car hitting the two-wheeler.
Soon, an argument escalated between them and the SSI allegedly verbally abused the two-wheeler rider.Further, Gandhirajan proceeded to drive his car and in the process dragged the two-wheeler rider, who was in the way, on his car bonnett for a distance of about 200 metres. Videos of the two-wheeler rider clinging onto the car bonnett in fear and calling for help went viral on social media platforms.On Thursday morning, SSI Gandhirajan was transferred to the Armed Reserve, pending enquiry. Subsequently, the Tirunelveli city police commissioner ordered his suspension. Legal action and disciplinary proceedings are also being initiated against Gandhirajan for his conduct.
