Bengal Elections Result: Amit Shah had promised BJP government would be sworn in on May 5. The numbers, right now, are making that look less like a boast and more like a forecast.

Shah's rally clip is flooding timelines — users are overlaying his speech with live seat tallies as Bengal's counting centres flash BJP leads.

Shah's rally clip is flooding timelines — users are overlaying his speech with live seat tallies as Bengal's counting centres flash BJP leads.

He said it from a rally stage in Chandipur, West Medinipur, with the swagger of a man certain of what the ballot boxes would eventually confirm. Union Home Minister Amit Shah looked into the crowd, pointed his finger toward Kolkata, and declared: “Tata, bye-bye. Your time is up." At the time, many dismissed it as election rhetoric. On May 4, 2026 — counting day — that clip is being shared across X, WhatsApp and Instagram at a furious pace, because Shah’s prediction appears to be coming true in real time.

The video — originally recorded at Shah’s final rally of Phase 1 campaigning — is regaining massive traction online this morning, with users overlaying the speech with live seat tallies as they pour in from across Bengal’s 77 counting centres.

The contrast is striking. Shah had promised the BJP government would be sworn in on May 5. The numbers, right now, are making that look less like a boast and more like a forecast.

What Do The Latest Bengal Trends Say?

The results are dramatic. As of 12:30 pm, the BJP was leading in 176 seats, while the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, was ahead in 94, with ally BGPM leading in one seat. The majority mark in the 294-seat assembly is 148. The BJP crossed that majority mark earlier in the morning and has continued to extend its lead, triggering celebrations at BJP offices across the state.

Is Mamata Banerjee Personally In Trouble?

Yes — and how. Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is currently trailing against BJP heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari in the Bhabanipur assembly constituency, the seat she has held as her political home base.

If Bhabanipur falls, it would be the single most symbolic defeat of the evening — a Chief Minister losing her own seat while her government crumbles around her.

What Drove This Result?

West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari attributed the performance to anti-incumbency and what he described as consolidation of Hindu votes, while also pointing to a division in minority voting patterns in districts such as Malda, Murshidabad and Uttar Dinajpur.

Shah had bet heavily on both. The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Modi and Shah, repeatedly targeted Banerjee over infiltration from Bangladesh and accused the TMC of looting Bengal, promising a “Sonar Bangla" — golden Bengal — for voters.

What Did Shah Actually Promise That Night in Chandipur?

Beyond the “tata, bye-bye" moment, Shah had made one more pointed declaration at that rally: that the BJP had freed the country from Naxalism and would now free it from infiltrators — from the Bay of Bengal to the Indian Ocean. He also promised a paan research centre for Chandipur. Today, Bengal is focused on a far bigger promise. And as the seats keep flipping saffron, Amit Shah’s Chandipur moment is having its viral reckoning.
