Teacher caught after mayor sees boys about to dump meat in river

GHAZIABAD: A madrasa teacher was detained on Sunday after mayor Sunita Dayal caught two minor students allegedly carrying a sack of rotten meat on a bicycle to dump it in the Hindon.Dayal stopped the boys around 12.30pm while travelling towards Indirapuram via the Hindon barrage route. After stopping them, she told them no waste should be thrown into the river, which is already battling pollution.According to police, the boys told Dayal they studied at a madrasa in Kanawani and had been sent by a teacher to dispose of the meat because it had been rotting in the refrigerator for several days. The mayor then asked what kind of meat was in the sack, suspecting it might be from a cow or its progeny.

The boys, police said, did not answer. The cops were alerted through Dial 112 and the sack was seized after a team arrived there from Indirapuram police station. ACP Abhishek Srivastava said the meat had been sent for forensic examination."The madrasa teacher, Zubair, has been detained. He has been working there for the past three years. More than 100 children study at the madrasa. We are verifying whether it is registered with the authorities concerned," Srivastava said.

Police said Dayal also expressed suspicion that meat had been dumped into the river earlier too.A video of the incident is being circulated on social media, showing Dayal purportedly warning police personnel at the spot that they would face suspension if the accused was released.
