Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy invited Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Gandhi Sarovar Project foundation-laying ceremony at Bapu Ghat in Langar Houz, Hyderabad, to be held at the end of February.
Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed at the point of confluence of Esa and Musi Rivers, in February of 1948, where the programme would be organised, informed the Chief Minister — who met with the Defence Minister in New Delhi on Thursday (February 12, 2026).
The Gandhi Sarovar project would be taken up as part of the Musi Rejuvenation project. Bapu Ghat will become a world-class educational, cultural, spiritual and environmental symbol, said Mr. Reddy.
Earlier, in November 2024, the Chief Minister requested the Centre to allot 222.7 acres of defence land at the merger of the two rivers, for Bapu Ghat development. A ‘Gateway of Hyderabad’ too was planned near the Gandhi Sarovar, to welcome tourists.
