Telangana Congress’s BC reservations celebration meeting at Kamareddy postponed

Telangana Congress party’s proposed public meeting in Kamareddy on September 15 has been postponed due to heavy rains in the State.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, B Mahesh Kumar Goud,. indicated that the party has decided to postpone the meeting that was aimed at celebrating the Assembly passing a resolution on enhancing Backward Classes (BC) reservations to 42% in local bodies.

The party wanted it to be a grand affair to send a positive signal to the people, and particularly the BC communities, on the party’s commitment to reservations and also expose the BJP’s attempts to block the Bills at the national level.

In fact, the party heads also planned to invite Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi to the meeting to garner the national attention it required, apart from showcasing the celebratory mood of the State.

Recently, the party also held a preparatory meeting at Kamareddy, headed by Mr. Goud and attended by Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Seethakka, as well as top Congress leaders.

Mr. Goud had declared at the meeting that it was not just a celebration but a message to the country that Congress not only promises but also delivers.

The BC bills are pending with the Governor, and it is not known whether he will give his assent or send them to the Centre, as they involve a national policy to ensure that the Supreme Court’s directions on limiting reservations to 50% are implemented.
