A court in Hyderabad on Friday returned a complaint filed against Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan and six others, citing a lack of jurisdiction as four of the respondents are current or former public representatives.

The case has gained attention because the Returning Officer in Madhya Pradesh had earlier rejected Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination papers, citing her failure to disclose details of the petition in her election affidavit.

The petition had been filed in September 2025 by a 47-year-old woman, who alleged that Kumbham Shiva Kumar Reddy of Narayanpet had sexually assaulted and threatened her. Based on her allegations, cases were registered at Panjagutta police station in Hyderabad in 2022 and at Cubbon Park police station in Bengaluru in 2023, The New India Express reported.

According to the complaint, the woman later approached senior Congress leaders, including Meenakshi Natarajan, seeking action against Shiva Kumar Reddy. She alleged that no action was taken, prompting her to file a private complaint before the court in Nampally against seven individuals, including Natarajan.

After examining submissions made by the respondents’ counsel and reviewing the case records, the court returned the petition on jurisdictional grounds.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, the petitioner claimed that she was followed by unidentified individuals. “I do not know whether any person wanted to abduct me. A few people recorded videos of me when I was entering the court", she alleged.

Separately, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Natarajan’s plea challenging the rejection of her Rajya Sabha nomination. A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Atul S Chandurkar held that courts cannot interfere with an ongoing election process while granting her liberty to raise the challenge in an election petition.
