HYDERABAD: The health, family and welfare department on Sunday issued orders to extend the contract by one year for 16,448 posts under the Director of Medical Education (DME), until permanent posts are filled.
This govt order (GO 1085) was issued just days after the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA) raised concerns about teaching faculty in medical colleges not having been paid for three months. The posts include clinical and non-clinical services, and cover govt medical colleges, teaching hospitals, nursing colleges, and dental colleges in Telangana.
This includes 4,772 contract posts, 8,615 outsourcing posts, 3,056 honorarium posts, and three multi-tasking staff in various categories under the DME.
Their contracts were extended from April 1, 2025 to March 31 next year. In recent days, hundreds of doctors working as assistant and associate professors and senior residents on a contractual basis at govt medical colleges such as Osmania Medical College and Gandhi Medical College and others in the state have expressed dissatisfaction regarding unpaid dues, which has led to financial constraints.
