Tension flared in Jaipur during Mahashivratri as priests clashed with Manak Chowk police over protocol violations.

Tension erupted at the Tadkeshwar Mahadev temple in Jaipur’s walled city during Mahashivratri festivities following a confrontation between the priest’s family and policemen. On February 16, according to temple priests and volunteers, the altercation disrupted the celebration on Sunday night. A video of the incident has circulated online.

The priests accused a sub-inspector from Manak Chowk police station and other policemen of entering the temple’s sanctum sanctorum while wearing belts, which violated temple norms, on the pretext of maintaining security. The situation reportedly escalated when the personnel were asked to adhere to temple protocols.

In response, a delegation from the temple met with senior police officials, demanding action against the involved sub-inspector and other policemen. BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya supported their demands, noting that there had been previous complaints against the sub-inspector.
