A survivor of the earthquakes in Venezuela has thanked the Government of India after receiving treatment and surgery at an Indian Army field hospital set up in the country’s capital, Caracas.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared a video on X, showing a young man recovering on a hospital bed and speaking about his treatment. In the post, Jaiswal wrote, “A voice from Venezuela. Hear a young man recount his experience at the Army Field Hospital."
In the video, the survivor introduces himself as Yoe Garcia and describes how he was injured during the earthquake disaster in La Guaira. He says he suffered multiple fractures before being brought to the Indian medical facility for urgent care.
“I came from the earthquake tragedy in La Guaira. Thanks to the Government of India, I underwent surgery on my arm after suffering two fractures and a fracture in my foot. Thanks to the Government of India, here I am, moving forward," Garcia says in the video.
India’s Emergency Medical Support
The Indian Army field hospital has been set up at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas as part of India’s relief mission following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month.
The disaster killed more than 1,700 people and caused widespread destruction across several regions.
The facility is providing emergency care, surgeries, and trauma support to injured survivors. Indian medical teams are working alongside local authorities to treat patients and assist in ongoing relief efforts.
According to the Indian Embassy in Caracas, the mission — named Operacion Amistad — includes airlifted medical supplies, mobile hospital units, and specialist personnel deployed to support emergency healthcare needs on the ground.
The earthquake, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, was among the strongest to hit Venezuela in over a century and was felt across neighbouring regions.
