Pakistan has brought Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the wife of jailed separatist leader Yasin Malik, into its campaign to defend the country’s position on Kashmir amid growing anger over the violent crackdown on protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), sources told CNN-News18.

Mullick, who previously served as a special adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on human rights and women empowerment, has frequently spoken about her husband’s case and alleged rights violations by India in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, her silence over the recent violence in Rawalakot and other parts of PoK has now come under scrutiny.

Mullick has not issued any strong condemnation of the reported use of force by Pakistani security personnel against protesters demanding basic rights, political representation and relief from worsening economic conditions.

The unrest has intensified across PoK, with protesters accusing the Pakistani establishment of suppressing peaceful demonstrations. Several people have reportedly been injured in clashes, while large-scale arrests, internet restrictions and disruptions in the supply of food and medicines have deepened public anger.

Questions Over Selective Human Rights Advocacy

Mullick’s continued support for Pakistan’s Kashmir campaign, despite the excesses committed by its security forces in PoK, exposes Islamabad’s selective approach to human rights.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of abuses in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the crackdown in territories under its own administration has raised questions over the credibility of that narrative.

Pakistan is using the Kashmir issue for diplomatic and geopolitical leverage while denying residents of PoK the political and economic rights they have been demanding.

Mullick has also been accused of using Yasin Malik’s case for personal and political benefit.

‘For Pakistan, Kashmir Is A Business’

Leaders of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which has been spearheading the protests, have accused Pakistan of treating Kashmir as a political and strategic commodity rather than addressing the concerns of its people.

“For Pakistan, Kashmir is a business," JAAC leaders have alleged, arguing that the region is exploited for geopolitical purposes while its residents face unemployment, inflation, discrimination and political repression.

The committee has demanded greater rights, representation and economic relief for the people of PoK. It has also accused the Pakistani authorities of responding to legitimate public grievances with arrests, communication blackouts and force.

The latest developments have sharpened the contrast between Pakistan’s international campaign on Kashmir and its treatment of protesters in PoK.

Mullick’s failure to speak about the Rawalakot violence, despite her former role as a human rights adviser, has reinforced allegations that Islamabad’s human rights advocacy is driven by political convenience rather than principle.
