Police arrested three persons and reportedly seized 1.6 kg of ganja from them on Wednesday. Kadapa in-charge SDPO B. Balaswamy Reddy said that special surveillance and raids were conducted on the sale of ganja within the limits of Chinnachowk police station.
A team from the police station intercepted three youths selling ganja near Nanapalli cross road on Tadipatri-Tirupati bypass road in Kadapa. The accused were identified as K. Madhav, S. Shankar, and V. Manoj Kumar, all residents of Kadapa district.
Chinnachowk Inspector B. Ramakrishna Reddy, Sub-Inspectors U. Pratap Reddy, T. Hariprasad and other police personnel, conducted the surveillance operation. They registered a case against the accused, who were later produced in the court.
During the preliminary investigation, the police said that the accused allegedly confessed to buying ganja from Raghava, a resident of Yerramukkapalli. The officials are conducting a detailed investigation to determine who is involved in this illegal trafficking of ganja.
The officials said that the Police Department has been continuously monitoring the sale, purchase and illegal trafficking of ganja. Strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police warned.
