Three arrested and 1.5 kg ganja seized in Guntur

Guntur district police arrested three persons allegedly involved in the sale of ganja and seized 1.5 kg of contraband during a special operation carried out by the Nagarampalem Police Station.

Guntur District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, in a statement on Thursday, said that acting on credible information received on July 8, a police team led by Circle Inspector Y. Satyanarayana conducted a raid and arrested the three persons.

The accused have been identified as Pathan Nagoor Vali alias Pandu alias Gundu, 27; Battula Durga Rao, 43; and Boda Naresh, 43. The police seized 900 grams of ganja from Nagoor and 300 grams each from the other two, taking the total seizure to 1.5kg.

During interrogation, the prime accused reportedly confessed to procuring ganja along with his mother, Sheikh Nagoor Bi alias Nagoor, from unidentified suppliers, packing it into small packets and selling it at higher prices.

The police said the prime accused was previously booked in an attempt-to-murder case and another case under the NDPS Act.

A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. The accused were produced before the court along with the seized contraband, while efforts are on to apprehend another person who is on the run.

The police appealed to the public to share information on narcotics trafficking with their nearest police station, assuring confidentiality of informants.
