Three civil courts in Bihar get bomb threats

On Monday, the civil courts in Patna, Barh, and Begusarai were put on high alert after receiving email bomb threats, marking a worrying seventh incident at the Patna court since early 2026. Security officials conducted extensive searches, yet found no explosives. Authorities are now hot on the trail of the sender, enlisting cyber experts in their investigation.

Patna/Begusarai: Civil courts in Patna, Barh and Begusarai received bomb threats through emails on Monday morning, prompting authorities to tighten security on the premises.Police said Monday’s threat to the Patna civil court was the seventh such incident since Jan 2026.Following the threat, police personnel deployed at the main gate of the Patna civil court frisked everyone entering the complex. People wearing masks or helmets were asked to remove them before being allowed inside.Officials from Pirbahore police station said the email, received by the registrar early in the morning, warned that RDX had been planted on the court premises and that an explosion would occur at 1pm.Town DSP-I Rajesh Raman said searches conducted on the campus did not yield any suspicious objects or explosives. “Security personnel were instructed to carry out detailed checks on everyone entering the premises. The court remained fully operational and there was no disruption in proceedings,” he said.Raman added that repeated threats appeared to be an attempt to harass authorities and disrupt court functioning.

“Regular checking and frisking are carried out on the court premises every day between 7am and 9am after a series of bomb threats in Feb. The courts were not shut down after the threats, which helped deter attempts to hamper work. A complete search of the campus was conducted again today and nothing suspicious was found,” he said. The DSP said no arrests have been made so far in connection with any of the incidents. “The investigating team travelled to Rajasthan and Chennai in pursuit of leads, but no significant breakthrough has been achieved yet.

The source of the emails remains untraced. At the police station level, resources are limited, so cyber experts are leading the probe and acting on available clues,” he said. After receiving the email, Pirbahore police registered a case and sought assistance from the cyber cell to trace its origin. Police said the Patna civil court had earlier received similar threats on Jan 8 and 28, and on Feb 9, 11, 12 and 13.Similar precautionary measures were taken at the Begusarai civil court after it received a bomb threat email. However, searches there too did not find any explosives.
