Three killed as car going to Tiruchi airport collides with a two-wheeler near Manthurai

Three persons, including two youths, who were going to the Tiruchi Airport were killed and several others injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with a two-wheeler and overturned near Manthurai in Tiruchi on Saturday.

Santosh, 22, an electrician from Theremutti near Lalgudi, had secured a job in Saudi Arabia and was travelling with his family in a car to Tiruchi International Airport. A second car carrying 11 of his friends, including Aravindhan, 19, of Nannimangalam and Sadiq Basha, 20, of Muslim Street, followed behind, driven by Sheriff, 24.

While overtaking a bus near Manthurai, the second car collided head-on with a two-wheeler ridden by Viswanathan, 56, and then overturned multiple times before hitting a tree. Aravindhan and Viswanathan died on the spot.

Seven others, including Sadiq Basha, were injured seriously and rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi. Sadiq Basha died of injuries. The condition of the three injured remains critical.

Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru visited the hospital and offered his condolences to the bereaved families. He also met the injured.
