A local court has awarded 14 years of imprisonment to each of the three persons convicted in the counterfeit currency case in East Godavari district. Three more persons, who were convicted in the case, have died during the course of the trial.
In 2018, a group of six persons were arrested while they were involved in printing counterfeit currency notes at Pangidi village in Kovvur rural police limits. The currency notes of face value of ₹5 lakh were seized.
In an official release, East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore said: “Chadalavada Anil Kumar of Kovvur, D. Ranjit Singh of Visakhapatnam and Y. Srinivasa Rao of Eluru have been convicted in the counterfeit currency case. The trio has been awarded 14 years of imprisonment and ₹10,000 fine.”.EOM
