Three-year-old girl dies after tempo traveller rolls forward

T’puram: A three-year-old girl was killed after a parked tempo traveller rolled forward and ran over her near Kumbichal Kadavu bridge at Amburi in Kattakada on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Rithu Veda, daughter of Anu Prasad and Nisaa of Kuttiyanikkad, Kottampally, Kattakada.According to police and relatives, Prasad had taken his tempo traveller on a family outing. Around three families travelled together to the tourist spot. After parking the vehicle near the bridge, the group got down and was dancing outside the vehicle.During this time, the handbrake of the tempo traveller is suspected to have been released, causing the vehicle to roll forward. The child, who was standing near the vehicle, was run over in the incident.Family members immediately rushed the girl to Neyyar Medicity Hospital in Kattakada. However, doctors declared her brought dead.The body was later shifted to Govt Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, for postmortem examination.Neyyar Dam police registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances under which the parked vehicle moved. They are examining whether the handbrake had been properly engaged and if any mechanical fault contributed to the accident.Further investigation is under way.
