A Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor named Ashish Chakraborty faced chants of "chor, chor" by a mob that gathered outside his house as he was being arrested by the police near West Bengal's Barrackpore for his alleged involvement in crimes such as extortion and criminal intimidation.

The irate crowd also vandalised his house, garage and an SUV parked inside it. Chakraborty, who has been accused of threatening local residents, was surrounded by local police and central forces personnel as he was being taken into custody.

Visuals from the scene show central forces personnel trying to pacify the crowd. Some people are also seen repeatedly kicking a gate on his property.
