Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar to get 'Y' category security after threat assessment review. This comes days after she was replaced by TMC chief as the party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha.

The central government has provided armed ‘Y’ category CISF security cover to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from May 19 after a threat assessment by central agencies.

According to ANI, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) extended the security cover by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to Dastidar following an intelligence bureau security assessment report.

Officials were quoted saying that the security cover for Dastidar would be subject to periodic review, in line with standard protocol.

Under the ‘Y’ category, the person is assigned a team of armed personnel for round-the-clock security.

“The cover includes armed personnel for close protection during travel and public engagements," Hindustan Times quoted a source.

Who Is Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar?

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar remains one of the senior most women leaders in the Trinamool Congress. The 66 year old leader currently serves as the National President of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress, the party’s women’s wing.

A three time Member of Parliament, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha and retained her seat in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections, becoming a member of the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha. Over the years, she has played an important organisational role within the party and remained a close member of Mamata Banerjee’s political team.

Dastidar, who represents the Barasat constituency in West Bengal, was last week replaced by Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha. She has been replaced by senior party MP Kalyan Banerjee.

Apart from her political career, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has a background in medicine and is known for raising public issues in Parliament. She has built a strong presence within the party as both a parliamentarian and a senior organisational leader. Though the TMC has not officially stated the reason for the reshuffle, the move reflects the party’s focus on strengthening parliamentary management and internal coordination ahead of future political contests.
