Premier League giants Chelsea produced a surprise to win the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Monday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with a 3-0 triumph over Ligue 1 Champions PSG to take top honours at the revamped event.

English international Cole Palmer netted twice before setting Joao Pedro up for the third as Enzo Maresca’s men ran riot against Luis Enrique’s unit.

Chelsea boss Maresca expressed his delight with the triumph and opined that the CWC would prove to be a landmark event going forward.

“I have the feeling that this competition is going to be as important, if not more important than, the Champions League," the Italia gaffer said.

Maresca, who was an assistant coach to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola when the Mancunian unit won the UCL title in 2023, revealed his joy in being able to guide Chelsea to the prestigious title.

“I was lucky to be on the coaching staff of a team that won the Champions League a few years ago, but this competition features the best teams in the world and I think we can value it on the same level," he said.

With the revamped tournament set to take place once every four years the Blues faithful earned the right to be termed Champions up until the 2029 edition of the Club World Cup.

“It is a great triumph for us and it will allow the Chelsea fans to have that on our shirt for the next four years, so it is a source of pride," the 45-year-old added.

PSG were billed as heavy favourites but Chelsea got off to a positive start and capitalised on their momentum to keep the scoreboard ticking.

“The message was to let them understand that we were here to win the game and I think in the first 10 minutes we showed them that," Maresca said.

“That set the tone of the game, and then the quality of the players was also important," he added.

Palmer struck twice in the first half an hour of the game before laying it on a platter for Pedro two minutes from time in the first period of the game.

“To score the goals was a great feeling, as was the way the team showed fire out there — the gaffer’s game plan was spot on," player of the game, Palmer, said following the triumph.

“I just try to do my job every time I go onto the pitch and hopefully I will continue," the Englishman added.

The 23-year-old Chelsea poster boy, who had his image up on billboard lived up to the expectations by striking gold in North American soil

“I have seen the billboards in Times Square and outside Madison Square Garden and it is obviously a nice feeling to be alongside those players," Palmer added.
