A massive cloudburst triggered a flash flood in Kishtwar
At least 46 people were killed after a massive cloudburst on Thursday triggered a flash flood in the Chashoti area of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have identified 21 bodies of the 46, and of the total dead, two were CISF personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to J&K CM Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha and took the stock of the situation and offered all possible assistance.
Survivors Share Ordeal
After being rescued, a victim of the flash flood in Kishtwar says, “Suddenly, there was a sound like a bomb exploding, and everyone started shouting, ‘Run, run.’ As I started to run, I got trapped in the debris, and an electricity pole fell on me. Some pilgrims were having food while some had taken refuge inside it to protect themselves from rain." Kumar said. “Suddenly, a flashflood carrying debris hit the community kitchen. Everyone was totally caught off guard and the deluge flattened everything that came in its way," Kumar said, describing him surviving the disaster a “miracle".
