As many as 377 tourist vehicles visited the hill stations in Chikkamgaluru on Monday, the first day since the new system to get entry passes was launched by the Chikkamagaluru district administration.

The tourists from different parts of the State, who had obtained entry passes after paying a fixed fee online, visited the hill stations. The district administration introduced the online booking system, with effect from September 1, to avoid traffic congestion on the narrow lanes that lead to Mullayyanagiri, Seethalayyanagiri, Bababudan Giri, and other hill stations in Chikkamagaluru taluk.

A maximum of 1,200 vehicles, in two slots, are allowed to visit the place.

Lohith, Assistant Director of the Tourism Department in Chikkamagaluru, told The Hindu that the staff at the checkpost allowed only those who had booked online. The tourists are making bookings for the coming days. As expected, the number of people seeking entry for the weekends is higher than those visiting in the weekdays, he said.
