Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Saturday said drug mafias would not be spared if they don’t rectify themselves.
“Earlier, only boys used to be found injecting drugs, but now, girls are also found taking them. We are trying to nab the drug mafia… Those who are involved in drugs, there is still time. Rectify yourselves. We have already told the police and other agencies not to spare anyone. We are implementing zero tolerance to drugs here,” said the chief minister while speaking at a blood donation camp in Agartala.
He claimed the state achieved a 103 per cent year-on-year rise in drug seizures last year. In the case of destruction of drugs, a 132 per cent hike was recorded.
CM Saha, who is also in charge of the Home department, Friday said the state recorded 12.35 per cent less crime in the first five months this year in comparison to the same period last year.
A total of 1,797 persons, including 1,626 men and 171 women, were held in the state for their alleged involvement in smuggling contraband items and cannabis cultivation in nearly two years since March 2023, said a report of the Home department placed in the Assembly in March this year.
