US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned that the conflict with Iran could be resolved in days — but added that if Tehran fails to reach a deal, the United States could “blow up the whole country."

In a phone interview with ABC News, Trump said he expects Iran to make a deal quickly. “If it happens, it happens. And if it doesn’t, we’re blowing up the whole country," he said.

“It’s going to be bridge day and power plant day in the country of Iran." He added that “very little" would be off limits if no agreement is reached, though he declined to specify whether civilian infrastructure would be targeted.

Trump also did not rule out sending ground troops to Iran. “I don’t think it’s necessary, but I don’t rule anything out," he said. When asked if he would extend the deadline to give Iran more time, Trump insisted the country “has plenty of time to make a deal" — warning, “Their whole country is gone" if they fail.

These latest comments by Trump come as he appeared to extend his ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 24 hours or face attacks on key infrastructure.

On his Truth Social account, he posted simply: “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!" The new deadline, equivalent to 0000 GMT Wednesday, gives Tehran an additional day to placate the US president before he follows through on threats to destroy bridges and power plants.

The Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Iran since the start of the US-Israeli bombing campaign on February 28, is a crucial route for global oil and gas shipments.

Trump, speaking separately to The Wall Street Journal, said: “We are in a position that’s very strong, and that country will take 20 years to rebuild, if they’re lucky, if they have a country. And if they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing."

In addition, Trump told Fox News he believes there is a “good chance" of a deal on Monday. He claimed Iranian negotiators had been granted “immunity from death" and conceded that Tehran would not pursue nuclear weapons, describing most points of negotiation as “already been conceded."
