Donald Trump criticises Israel for a prolonged, deadly fight with Hezbollah, urges letting Syria handle Hezbollah while warning Tel Aviv against strikes on Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticised Israel for prolonging its fight against Hezbollah while emphasising that Syria would “do a better job" in dealing with the Iran-backed terror group.

Speaking to reporters at the G7 Summit, Trump said, “the man that’s running Syria now" is “very good with Hezbollah".

The remarks come as Israel’s fight against Hezbollah has been ongoing for the past several years. However, it has failed till now.

Expressing frustration over the mounting casualties from Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah, the US President said that Israel has been fighting Hezbollah for “too long" and “too many people are being killed".

“You don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you’re looking for somebody, because there are a lot of people in those apartment houses, and they’re not all Hezbollah," he said.

“Bibi has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon," Trump said. “I am not happy with the way Israel has handled themselves with Lebanon and Hezbollah. They should have been able to do the job faster."

CNN quoted the US President saying that he has “suggested to Israel" that Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, whom he called “a person that I put there" should “take care of Hezbollah."

“He’s not a Boy Scout, but he’s done an amazing job of pulling it together, and he is very good with Hezbollah. Does not like them," Trump said. “I suggested to Israel to let Syria take care of Hezbollah, because to be honest with you, I think they do a better job of doing it."

The President once again slammed Israel over recent strikes on Hezbollah in Beirut, shortly after the announcement of a peace deal between Iran and the US.

He further said that he was not happy with “the way Israel has handled themselves with Lebanon and with Hezbollah". “They should have been able to do the job faster. It just goes on forever. And when that happens, it throws a negative light on the big deal, and that’s the deal with Iran."

The Israeli military on Sunday launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in the Lebanese capital. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a post on X, said that the strikes were in response to Hezbollah attacks on the north of the country.

While defending Israel’s “right to defend itself against threats," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, “the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process".
