US President Donald Trump said that a large number of empty oil tankers are currently heading towards the United States to load what he described as the “best and sweetest" oil and gas in the world.

In a post, Trump claimed that the US has more oil reserves than the next two largest oil-producing economies combined, along with superior quality. He added that the country is ready to supply energy quickly, emphasising a rapid turnaround for incoming tankers.

The United States is currently the world’s largest producer of crude oil, driven largely by its shale oil industry, particularly in regions like Texas’ Permian Basin. US crude is often classified as “light sweet crude," meaning it has low sulphur content and is easier and cheaper to refine into fuels such as petrol and diesel.

However, while the US leads in production, countries like Saudi Arabia and Russia hold some of the largest proven oil reserves globally.

In recent years, global oil flows have also been influenced by geopolitical tensions, supply cuts by OPEC+, and shifting demand patterns, leading to increased movement of tankers across regions.
