Times News NetworkKanpur: One drowned at Saraiya Ghat in the Shivrajpur police station area of Kanpur on Sunday during Ganga bathing while trying to save a woman who was drowning.
According to police, the incident occurred when a woman went into deep water and began to drown.
Three people were swept away in the strong current of the Ganga . With the help of local divers and police, two people were safely rescued. A young man whose condition was critical was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, where he died. Raj Chaurasia, a resident of Karwalo Nagar, Afeem Kothi, under the Raipurwa police station area, came to Saraiya Ghat for Ganga bathing with his family.The family members Yasi Chaurasia, Seema Chaurasia, Shanno Chaurasia, Jay Chaurasia, Gullu alias Amber Chaurasia, and Deepanti Chaurasia were also present.While bathing, Deepanti went beyond the designated safety boundary and her foot slipped, causing her to drown in deep water. To save Deepanti, Raj Chaurasia immediately jumped into the Ganga, but he too began to drown due to the strong current. In an attempt to save him, Amber alias Gunnu Chaurasia also entered the water and began to drown as well.
After receiving information from the control room, the Shivrajpur police station in-charge reached the spot with police force and beat in-charge sub-inspector Abhishek Singh. With the assistance of local divers Deepanti (38) and Amber alias Gunnu Chaurasia (15) were safely rescued. Subsequently, Raj Chaurasia (24) was also located and pulled out of the water.Police sent the injured to Community Health Centre Shivrajpur.
Deepanti’s condition was reported as normal, while doctors referred Raj Chaurasia to Kanpur due to his serious condition. According to lekhpal Rishabh Dubey, family members brought Raj Chaurasia in a critical condition to a private hospital in Kalyanpur, where doctors declared him dead.
