The Telangana State Election Commission appears to have decided to hold elections to mandal parishad and zilla parishad territorial constituencies first and this will be followed by the elections for sarpanch posts at the village level.

The development follows the High Court’s directions to hold elections to local bodies before September 30. The Commission which earlier notified preparation of photo electoral voter identity cards at the village level has issued schedule for publication of polling stations for the ZPTC and MPTC elections ahead of the polls.

According to it, the Mandal Parishad Development Officers are directed to publish the draft list of polling stations for ZPTC and MPTC elections by September 6. This will be followed by meeting of representatives of political parties at the district and mandal levels by the district election authorities on September 8. The commission said applications on claims and objections relating to the polling stations will be received from September 6 to 8 and the officials concerned will dispose them of on September 9. This will be followed by final publication of the list of polling stations on September 10.

Simultaneously, the commission has set time frame for final verification of voter lists. Accordingly, territorial constituency wise draft electoral rolls would be displayed in the respective areas on September 6 and this will be followed by meeting of representatives of political parties at district and mandal levels on September 8. Claims and objections pertaining to any missing gram panchayats and wards will be received between September 6 and 8 and they will be disposed of after verification by the officials concerned on September 9.

The commission directed that the final display of territorial constituency wise electoral rolls will be on September 10.
