The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has set an ambitious deadline to make its entire fleet of electric buses operational before the annual ‘Srivari Brahmotsavam’ scheduled this September, paving the way for a cleaner and more efficient transport system atop the temple town.

Reviewing the project with representatives of Reliance company at the Sudharma conference hall in Padmavathi Guest House on Tuesday, TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary directed officials to expedite all infrastructure and operational preparations to ensure the smooth induction of the electric buses being donated by the company.

The review focused on establishing a dedicated charging station, ensuring uninterrupted power supply, identifying parking space, deploying trained drivers and creating the supporting infrastructure needed for round-the-clock operations.

Stressing that the buses should be fully utilised for the benefit of pilgrims, the Additional EO instructed officials to complete the project well before Brahmotsavam. He proposed a charging station with the capacity to support a fleet of 50 electric buses, including the 15 buses already being operated by TTD and future additions, with 10 charging points capable of charging 20 buses simultaneously. The facility will be equipped with 2 MW fast chargers to minimise charging time and maximise fleet availability.

Each bus will be 10-metres long and will safely accommodate around 50 passengers. Officials were also directed to train a pool of 50 drivers and operate 25 buses in each of two shifts, ensuring the availability of bus every two minutes for devotees even during peak hours.

Mr. Chowdary also asked officials to install advanced Passenger Information Systems in every bus to provide real-time updates on upcoming stops. He also asked them to identify suitable land for parking and charging facilities in consultation with Reliance so that the entire electric mobility project is ready ahead of the mega festival.
