Skin tissues found on the gymnastics belt allegedly used as a noose in the Twisha Sharma case matched the injury marks found on her body, according to the second postmortem report submitted by the AIIMS Delhi medical board to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The agency is now studying and analysing the findings, officials said.

Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in Bhopal on May 12, underwent a second postmortem after her family raised concerns over the findings of the initial autopsy. The AIIMS Delhi medical board was constituted following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The report also noted that the gymnastics belt had a metal ring attached to it. However, the CBI has not yet reached a conclusion on whether the case was a suicide or involved any other circumstances.

AIIMS PANEL SUBMITS REPORT TO CBI

The five-member AIIMS medical board submitted its 11-page forensic report to the CBI in a sealed envelope on July 10, in compliance with the Madhya Pradesh High Court's directions.

The report included findings from laboratory and histopathological examinations, which confirmed the presence of skin tissues on the alleged ligature material – the gymnastics belt.

The findings are significant as the first postmortem had not conclusively established the role of the alleged ligature material, since the gymnastics belt was reportedly not produced before the initial medical team.

SECOND POST-MORTEM CONDUCTED ON MAY 24

The AIIMS board conducted the second postmortem on May 24 and also examined the scene of the incident as part of its assessment.

The detailed opinion of the medical board has been kept confidential as it was submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover following the court's directions.

Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, had earlier said the board carried out a detailed scientific examination before preparing its report.

He said the panel examined all possible aspects of the case for nearly a month and considered available national and international medical literature before submitting its opinion. He declined to share further details, citing court directions.

TWISHA'S FAMILY ALLEGED LAPSES IN REPORT

A former model-actress, Sharma got married to lawyer Samarth Singh last December. However, she was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in Bhopal on May 12.

Her family had alleged discrepancies in the initial investigation and postmortem report and approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking further examination of the case.

The court later ordered a second postmortem by an AIIMS Delhi medical board and transferred the investigation to the CBI.

The model-actor's family had alleged that she was tormented by her in-laws – retired Judge Giribala Singh, who were not satisfied with the dowry paid at the time of marriage.

They also levelled allegations of mental torture and domestic violence, which allegedly pushed the 33-year-old former model-actor to take the extreme step.
