Two arrested in Gujarat's Rajkot for sexual assault of minors

A serious case of alleged sexual assault of two minors has come to light in Gujarat's Rajkot, where police have arrested two accused after a video of the abuse surfaced on social media.

According to police, the accused, Jayesh Majethia and Sandeep alias Lala Patel, allegedly assaulted two minors, aged 14 and 16, over a period of nearly three months at a residential building of a school in the city.

The case was registered at the A Division police station following a complaint filed by the grandmother of one of the victims. Police said an FIR has been lodged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.

Both victims are originally from Nepal. In her complaint, a 50-year-old woman working as a domestic help in Rajkot stated that the minors were engaged for work related to washing water containers, where they came in contact with the accused.

The complaint alleges that the accused repeatedly assaulted the minors and also threatened them when they resisted. It further states that the accused recorded videos of the abuse on mobile phones, which later circulated on social media.

Officials described the case as serious, adding that further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the incident.

As the victims did not have birth certificates, police conducted medical age verification at a civil hospital. The report indicated that one of the victims was between 14 and 17 years old. Police have registered a case against both accused under Sections 351 and 54(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and various provisions of the POCSO Act, and have initiated further investigation.
