Two police constables were suspended for allegedly molesting a 29-year-old woman outside a pub in Panaji, said police on Friday.

According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday, around 9:40 pm, near the entrance of a pub in the Patto area. Police said the complainant hails from Nepal and has been employed as a security staff at the pub.

Police said the two policemen, Omkar Jadhav and Mayur Naik, allegedly molested the woman by inappropriately touching her and hurled abuses at her using objectionable language. In a statement, police said one of the accused allegedly asked the woman to “come along with him” and offered her money. The accused allegedly assaulted her by hitting a mobile phone on her forehead.

In a statement, Rahul Gupta, Superintendent of Police (SP) Crime and North Goa SP, said that both constables were suspended immediately after the incident was reported.

“The accused are police personnel deputed in branches of the North Goa SP office. Such behaviour is unacceptable as part of a disciplined police force. Strict disciplinary action shall be taken. Further investigation is ongoing,” said SP Gupta. Police said a show-cause notice has also been issued to a third police constable, who had accompanied the duo.
