Two cops suspended for taking bribe

A village administrative officer of Mudivaithanendal in Tuticorin and his assistant were arrested by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials on Thursday for accepting a bribe of ₹9,000 to process a patta transfer.

Trichy: Tiruvarur district police superintendent V Satish Kumar has placed two head constables under suspension for allegedly accepting bribes from a tobacco seller and failing to act against him despite the sale of banned tobacco products.The constables are Bharathiraja of the Nannilam police station and Manoharan of Kudavasal police station.Police said following a raid, a police team found a petty shop run by Baskar in Athikkadai near Kudavasal has been selling banned tobacco products for several years. Deputy superintendent of police N Muthukumaran, during an investigation, found multiple UPI transactions from Baskar’s bank account to the two constables, indicating that they were receiving regular bribes to allow the illegal sale of tobacco products.In his report, Muthukumaran also flagged suspicious large money transfers from Baskar’s account to a food safety official. The SP recommended appropriate action against the official and wrote to the district collector on the same, sources said.
