Madurai: A drunken altercation between two friends turned deadly with the death of one person near Usilampatti railway station in Madurai district on Thursday night.The deceased was identified as Palpandi, 25, a resident of Keezhaputhoor in Usilampatti.
The suspect was identified as Kavin Kumar, 24, son of Thenmozhi, vice-chairman of Usilampatti municipality.Police said the two were close friends since childhood and often worked together at construction sites.On Thursday, Palpandi, who went to Namakkal for work, returned to Usilampatti. The duo, along with two other friends, Kesavan, 23, and Kishore, 26, allegedly consumed alcohol near the Usilampatti railway station.An argument broke out between Palpandi and Kavin Kumar while they were drinking, during which the latter allegedly picked up a stone and attacked Palpandi, killing him on the spot.Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Usilampatti govt hospital for autopsy.Police arrested Kavin Kumar, Kesavan and Kishore.In a separate incident in Melur on Friday morning, Nallusamy, 55, an acting driver from Kailampatti, was hacked to death by his son Ajith, 23, while consuming alcohol. Subsequent police investigation revealed that the suspect was the son of Nallusamy's first wife, and he allegedly murdered him over a land dispute. Melavalavu police have registered a case and are searching for the suspect.
