Two men, who were arrested for allegedly verbally abusing a doctor and nurse, vandalising hospital property and disrupting official duties at the Family Health Centre in Aloor, have been sent in judicial custody.

The accused have been identified as Delvin Arikkat, 32, and Sujith Vayameli, 22, both natives of Aloor village. They were taken into custody from the spot by the Aloor police following the incident on Friday.

According to the police, the duo had reached the hospital with minor toe injuries sustained in a road accident. At the time, the duty nurse was attending to a child. Angered over not being treated first, the accused allegedly hurled abuse at the nurse.

When the duty doctor intervened and asked them to move to the dressing room, the accused reportedly used abusive language against the doctor as well. They then went on a rampage, overturning chairs in the nursing room and damaging medicines and medical equipment kept on the table.

The police said the accused also filmed the doctor and nurse on their mobile phones without consent.

Hospital authorities alerted the police, who reached the spot and took the duo into custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with non-bailable provisions of the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act.

The police said Delvin is involved in around 10 criminal cases across various stations, including a POCSO case, a case of obstructing Railway Protection Force personnel on duty, offences related to creating public nuisance under the influence of drugs, and multiple cases of rash and negligent driving endangering human life.
