The Red Sanders Special Additional District Judge’s court has convicted two smugglers for illegal transportation of the precious wood and convicted them to undergo five years in jail, apart from a fine of ₹6 lakh each.
As per the case pertaining to 2016, J. Damodaram of Tirupati and A. Hari Prasad of Chittoor were arrested at Pandurangavaripalli in Chandragiri mandal of Tirupati district, while smuggling the logs.
The special team formed by the Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) head L. Subbarayudu with Superintendent of Police P. Srinivas fast tracked the pending cases and brought the case to a logical end.
As their involvement in the crime was proved during the hearing, Judge Narasimha Murthy delivered the judgment on Monday, sentencing the duo to undergo five years in jail and payment of a fine of ₹6 lakh each.
