Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation officials seized around two tonnes of banned single-use plastic and imposed fine on a super specialty hospital for improper disposal of waste, on Wednesday.The civic body launched a special operation against storage, transport, and use of restricted plastic items in Loha Mandi area, targeting two logistics firms.Officials found a massive stockpile of banned plastic spoons and disposable glasses being stored and transported at Veer Transport. The establishment was slapped with a spot fine of Rs 1 lakh. Another firm, Angad Logistics, was penalized with a spot fine of Rs 25,000 for storing banned plastic items.A total of 19 cartons, weighing approximately two tonnes, of banned plastic materials were confiscated from both sites.A spot fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on C-3 Super Specialist Hospital located in Ward 31 (Zone 22) for improper disposal of biomedical waste.The action was initiated after IMC received a video, recorded by a resident, showing large quantity of biomedical waste being dumped openly on a vacant plot behind C-21 Mall.
A team inspected the site and traced the hazardous waste back to C-3 Hospital. Along with the fine, the hospital was issued a warning against future violations.IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal said that strict action would continue against anyone disposing of household, commercial, or medical waste in public areas.
