Amid predictions over the Assembly election results, the ruling LDF in Kerala on Thursday said the exit polls did not show an anti-incumbency feeling among the people while the opposition UDF lauded the predictions.

A day after the exit polls predicted a UDF win in the elections held in the state on April 9, BJP-NDA said there was a strong anti-incumbency feeling among the people, but no pro-UDF wave.

Live Updates For Kerala Assembly Exit Polls

PTI quoted the LDF saying that it would return to power for a third time, while the NDA claimed it would gain more seats than what was predicted in the exit polls. Meanwhile, the Congress-led UDF said it was similar to the outcome predicted by it.

Congress General Secretary (organisation), K C Venugopal, said: “There is no need to be concerned about it now. Everything will be clear on May 4. It will be UDF’s day. We are not going by exit polls. Election results do not always match exit poll predictions."

PTI quoted Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Sunny Joseph and senior party leader K Muraleedharan saying that the exit poll figures were close to the numbers calculated by the party and indicated that the UDF will come to power after the Assembly poll results are declared on May 4.

“So, as far as UDF is concerned, our win is assured. We expect the people’s verdict to be in favour of the UDF," Muraleedharan told reporters and added that the chief minister will be decided after May 4.

However, the exit polls were welcomed by Congress-ally and a key UDF constituent, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

IUML supremo Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal said: “We expect UDF to get more seats than what was predicted in the exit poll."

Exit polls are based on voter surveys conducted after voting and are not always accurate predictors of actual results.
