UG admissions at PU likely to begin from May 1st week

Patna: The admission process for four-year undergraduate courses at Patna University (PU) for the 2026–27 academic session is likely to begin in the first week of May. The timeline was indicated during a meeting of the university’s academic calendar committee held here on Monday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh.PU dean of students’ welfare Kameshwar Pandit told the newspaper that a final decision on the university’s new academic calendar could not be taken on Monday. The calendar—detailing admission schedules for all UG and PG courses, examination dates and result declarations—is likely to be finalised on Tuesday. However, the committee decided that admissions to four-year bachelor honours programmes, both in conventional and self-financed modes, will be conducted through a combined written test to be held by the university after the completion of online application submissions. The written test-based admission system is set to be reintroduced after a gap of nearly six years. The university has received permission from the newly appointed chancellor of state universities to conduct the entrance examination. PU had introduced entrance tests for bachelor-level admissions in 2012 during the tenure of then VC Shambhu Nath Singh, but the system was discontinued in 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Necessary amendments to the admission ordinance were later approved by the chancellor.Pandit said online applications for UG admissions in the faculties of arts, science and commerce across PU colleges—including Patna College, B N College, Magadh Mahila College, Patna Science College and Vanijya Mahavidyalaya—are likely to begin on May 5. Aspirants will have to apply through the Samarth portal, which is expected to be launched by the university shortly.
