In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, a pregnant woman allegedly slit her own abdomen with a sharp object after being unable to endure severe labour pain, police said.

The woman, who was in the final stage of pregnancy, reportedly took the extreme step at her home when the pain became unbearable. Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital after discovering her in a critical condition.

Doctors managed to save both the woman and the newborn baby following emergency medical intervention. Hospital authorities said the mother suffered serious injuries due to the self-inflicted wound but is currently under treatment.

Police have launched an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the woman may not have had immediate access to medical assistance at the time she went into labour. Authorities are also examining whether any negligence or delay in seeking medical care contributed to the situation.
