Lucknow: An undertrial lodged in the district jail died during treatment at Balrampur Hospital after his health deteriorated, officials said on Sunday.According to police, Anuj Kumar, 36, alias Kulli, son of late Rajaram Yadav and a resident of Balsingh Kheda under Bijnor police station limits, was arrested in connection with a warrant issued by the court of the Additional District Judge (SC/ST Act) in Case No.

1394/23, linked to Crime No. 86/22 under Sections 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC, along with provisions of the SC/ST Act.Police said the warrant was under daily judicial review. Acting on specific inputs, police arrested Anuj Kumar from the house of his maternal uncle, Ram Naresh Yadav, in the Khujoli area on Friday afternoon. After a medical examination at the Sarojini Nagar CHC, he was produced before the court and later lodged in Lucknow District Jail.On Saturday, Anuj complained of nausea and began vomiting blood. He was admitted to the jail hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment. However, when his condition worsened, he was referred to Balrampur Hospital, where he died during treatment, officials said.Jail authorities said the inmate had informed doctors that he had undergone two liver surgeries and had three rings inserted in his liver. A preliminary inquiry also suggested that the deceased was addicted to alcohol and had a history of serious liver-related ailments.Police said the post-mortem would be conducted by a panel of doctors, and the entire procedure would be videographed.
