Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya has been invited to attend the Chennanda Hockey Festival in Kodagu, regarded as the cradle of hockey in Karnataka.

“Preparations are underway to organise the hockey festival in a grand manner in Kodagu. This time, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports has also been invited and he has assured his presence,” said Mysuru Lok Sabha MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

The Chennanda Hockey Festival will be held in Kodagu this year. Office-bearers of the tournament’s organising committee, led by Mr. Wadiyar, met the Union Sports Minister in New Delhi on Monday, and invited him to attend the valedictory ceremony of the festival as the chief guest.

Mr. Wadiyar said that extensive preparations are being made to organise the festival in a systematic and grand manner, and that all necessary arrangements are progressing continuously. He added that the Sports Minister was met personally and formally invited to the event.

After accepting the invitation, Mr. Mandaviya sought details about Kodagu’s rich hockey legacy and the historic nature of the Hockey Festival. He later expressed his consent to attend the festival, Mr. Wadiyar said in a press release issued here.

Members of the Chennanda Hockey Festival organising committee met the Union Minister dressed in traditional Kodava attire.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to Mr. Wadiyar for making special arrangements in New Delhi to facilitate the invitation. They said the MP has been offering valuable support and guidance to ensure the hockey festival is organised in the best possible manner, the release added.
