In a case of alleged harassment regarding dowry claims, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra was accused of installing CCTV cameras in his sister-in-law’s bathroom and kitchen. The woman also accused her in-laws’ family of repeated physical and verbal harassment, such as taunting and beating her over the additional dowry claims, including a WagonR car and Rs 2 lakh cash.
In 2023, the woman tied the knot with Kapil Dev on March 12, 2019, as per the Hindu rituals. The woman’s family claimed that they spent Rs 15 lakh in the wedding, which included gold and silver jewellery, furniture, utensils, electronics, clothing, a bullet motorcycle, and Rs 5.51 lakh in cash. However, the husband’s family remained dissatisfied, and demands for additional dowry started emerging. The claims for a Wagon-R car and an additional Rs two lakh in cash emerged suddenly.
The woman heard repeated verbal taunts and was subjected to physical violence as the demands of the in-laws’ family were not fulfilled. As per the allegations, Dev’s family did not stop harassing the woman even after she gave birth to two kids, Riyansh and Kunal.
The conflict further escalated as Kunal’s brother installed CCTV cameras in the kitchen and the washroom to further humiliate and torture her. When the woman asked the family members to remove them, no one paid any heed.
On November 5, the entire family of the husband, including his parents and brother, threatened the woman of throwing her out of the family. A month later, she, along with her two sons, was thrown out. Her younger son, Riyansh, was in a critical condition at that time. However, the family refused to consider it. The child was admitted to a local hospital, and the woman’s maternal family bore all the cost
The woman launched a police complaint, and based on the complaint, the police have started investigating. She has further claimed that all the dowry items have been possessed by her in-laws. The police are proceeding with further investigation.
