A maulana in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old woman who later gave birth to a baby girl at her home. The accused, Maulana Islam, a neighbour of the girl, allegedly threatened and sexually assaulted her, as a result of which she became pregnant.

Following a complaint by her family, a case was registered, and the accused was arrested.

The incident took place in a village in the Pilkhuwa Kotwali area. When the 14-year-old girl experienced sudden severe stomach pain on February 14, her family took her to a private hospital, where doctors informed them that she was pregnant.

The family brought her back home, and shortly afterwards, she delivered a baby girl at the house.

However, she was unaware of the pregnancy and did not inform her family about the matter. On the night of February 14, around 8 pm, she complained of severe abdominal pain and was taken to a private hospital, where doctors confirmed the pregnancy.

She later gave birth at home the same day. A complaint was lodged at Pilkhuwa Kotwali, after which an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested. The case pertains to a village in the Pilkhuwa Kotwali area.

The survivor’s father is originally from Hasanpur in Amroha district but has been living for several years in his in-laws’ village in Pilkhuwa, working as a labourer to support his family.

The woman told police that her neighbour, Maulana Islam, used to sexually assault her when she was alone at home and threatened her, which is why she did not disclose the matter to her family.

Pilkhuwa Kotwali in-charge Inspector Manish Chauhan said police first met the woman and her newborn at their home. They were later shifted to a One-Stop Centre, where both are reported to be healthy.

Based on the father’s complaint, an FIR was registered on February 17 and the woman’s medical examination was conducted. Statements of the victim and her family have been recorded. The accused was arrested on February 18 and is being sent to jail following legal proceedings.
