The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced Tuesday that the latest strike on an alleged drug boat killed one and left two survivors in the eastern Pacific.

In a post on ‘X’, the U.S. SOUTHCOM shared a clip of the operation that was carried out in line with the directions issued by Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan.

“On May 26, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations", the statement read.

As shown in the video, the alleged drug boat was gliding across the sea just when, seconds later, the U.S. strikes hit and caused the vessel to burst into flames.

Pertinent to note that the strikes fall under what the Pentagon calls “Operation Southern Spear," a broader military effort to disrupt maritime drug trafficking networks.

The SOUTHCOM noted the operation was conducted after an intelligence confirmation that the vessel was “transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations."

“One male narco-terrorist was killed during this action, and there were two survivors", it said.

The SOUTHCOM confirmed no U.S. military forces were harmed in the attack.

“Following the engagement, USSOUTHCOM immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivors", it added.

‘U.S. In Armed Conflict’ With Cartels

The strikes come as President Donald Trump declares an “armed conflict" with cartels in Latin America, justifying the attacks as a necessary action to curb the flow of drugs entering the United States.

Earlier this month, the White House announced Trump had greenlit a new U.S. counterterrorism strategy, aiming to eliminate drug cartels in the Western Hemisphere as the administration’s highest priority, CBS News reported.
